Recycle Going green does not always have to come at a cost. As a matter of fact, being environmentally responsible can save you hundreds, thousands and even millions of dollars each year depending on the size of your company. Global warming is a real and serious threat that we all must face. We can all make a difference by the choices we make. There are several easy things we can do around the office and in our daily lives to reduce our impact on the environment.

- Turn off computer and monitor at the end
   of the day.
- Switch to electronic documents utilizing
   Adobe Acrobat to save paper.
- Replace light bulbs with CFL (Compact
   Florescent Light) where possible.
- Encourage recycling by having recycle
bins next to trash can locations.
- Consider office supplies with at least 50
   percent post-consumer recycled content.
- Consider eco certified computers in the
next upgrade cycle to reduce your
   electricity bill and environmental footprint.
- Consider taking advantage of virtualization
for existing servers to save electricity.
- Encourage public transportation or
carpooling to work and consider offering
   incentives.
- If possible, consider biking to work once a
week as part of your exercise program.

Virtualization is simply using software to run two or more operating systems on a single computer simultaneously. In other words, running two or more computers on only one computer. Most computers today utilize less than twenty percent of their resources (total computing power). By implementing virtualization, the software re-allocates the unused system resources, that would otherwise sit idle or doing nothing, to run additional operating systems. As an example, instead of running three dedicated servers (web, database, storage), consolidate to only one by taking advantage of virtualization.

The benefits are absolutely amazing:
- Eco friendly corporate image and goodwill by reducing environmental footprint.
- Maximize Return On Investment (ROI) on existing servers.
- Utilize existing IT infrastructure that would otherwise sit idle.
- Cut your electricity bill by not having to run multiple servers.
- Cut costs by not having to invest in additional servers in the near future.
- Save on limited office space by having fewer severs.
- Cut costs and save time by having to only manage one server instead of a room full.
- Consolidate servers to reduce heat buildup (one of the biggest issues IT faces today).
